The evening tours and the day tours, set out by the clock: start, stops, sunset, dinner and the way home.
Afternoon or morning: the choice that decides the rest

Every one of these trips is a long day, because the road north takes up most of it. What you are really choosing is when you go.
The evening tours leave Perth after lunch, reach Nambung National Park in the late afternoon and stay for sunset and the first stars. Sunset at the Pinnacles is at about 6:53 PM on 15 November and 7:21 PM on 22 December 2026 (computed for the park, matching Perth Observatory’s tables), which is why these tours start later in high summer. You get home late: Autopia Tours’ 9-hour tour, starting at 2:00 PM on 8 December, comes back around 11 PM.
The day tours leave in the morning and see the pillars in full daylight. Autopia Tours’ Lobster Shack and Yanchep day trip left at 9:30 AM on the dates we read, for 9 hours; Australian Pinnacle Tours’ koalas and 4WD day ran from 8:00 AM to 7:30 PM. Pickup points and times has every tour’s start and return side by side.
The sunset tour, start to finish
Autopia Tours’ itinerary starts and ends at the Criterion Hotel Perth, and the price covers selected inner-city pick-up and drop-off points. Getting from your hotel to that point is up to you. The start time moves with the sunset: 1:30 PM on 14 November, 2:00 PM on 8 December 2026 and 12 January 2027.
An air-conditioned mini-coach heads north. About an hour and a half out it stops at Guilderton Lookout, above the Indian Ocean and the Moore River. Next is Nilgen Nature Reserve when the wildflowers are out, or Hangover Bay when they are not; Parks and Wildlife Service WA puts the heath flowering in Nambung National Park from August to October.
At the Pinnacles the guide walks you among the limestone pillars as the light goes. The walks are 1 to 2 km and need moderate fitness. After sunset comes a picnic dinner with a glass of wine, then the telescope, weather permitting, before the drive back to the city.
Check start times for the sunset tour
The same tour sells on Viator as Pinnacles Sunset Stargazing Dinner Experience Small Group Tour for US$139 (checked November 2026), a few dollars more than on GetYourGuide.
The other evening tours
Lumineer Adventure Tours' In-Desert Sunset BBQ, Stargazing and Sandboarding tour starts a little earlier, at 1:15 PM on 14 November and 1:30 PM in December and January. It collects from designated Perth CBD hotels and sends the pickup time by text, email or WhatsApp the evening before. It goes to Lancelin first for sandboarding on the dunes (or a beachside pub if you would rather not), then a beach walk, then sunset in the Pinnacles Desert with a freshly cooked BBQ dinner. After dark the guides bring out telescopes and astro binoculars, and if weather stops the stargazing you get a refund. It costs US$163, about US$27 more than Autopia Tours'.
Australian Pinnacle Tours' sunset tour stops at Yanchep National Park for koalas, sees the sunset at the Pinnacles, takes you to a tavern in Cervantes for a sit-down dinner and goes back into the park for the night sky, returning to Perth at about 11:00 PM. Tuesdays were not on sale on the dates we read. Tour2Holiday's koala, sunset and stargazing tour spends three hours at the Pinnacles, with a picnic dinner there, and has guides who speak English and Chinese.
Wildlife Tours Australia's Pinnacles Desert Sunset Stargazing Adventure Tour is US$122 (checked November 2026), the lowest price among the sunset tours we found on either site, with a picnic dinner and a telescope.
Back before dark
A day tour suits you if you are not keen on getting home near midnight, or if you want the pillars in daylight for photographs.
Autopia Tours’ Lobster Shack and Yanchep day trip is from US$137, the same as its sunset tour. It starts with local produce at a Yanchep lavender farm or tearoom, walks the Lake Thetis boardwalk past its stromatolites, does the Pinnacles guided walk and stops for lunch at the Lobster Shack in Cervantes, which you pay for yourself.
Australian Pinnacle Tours’ Pinnacles, Koalas, 4WD and Sandboarding Tour is the full version: Caversham Wildlife Park in the Swan Valley, fish and chips in Cervantes, the Pinnacles, then 45 minutes in a 4WD truck on the Lancelin dunes and some downhill sandboarding. At US$185 it is the dearest of the four in the comparison. A day trip hour by hour goes through it in order, and what comes with each tour sets the extra stops side by side.
For a group of five or fewer, take you there tours' 4WD day leaves the Bell Tower in Barrack Square at 6:45 AM, drives the sandy loop among the pillars and finishes with 105 minutes of sandboarding at Lancelin.
What reviewers mention
Autopia Tours’ sunset tour has 1,171 reviews on GetYourGuide at an average of 4.7. Of the 350 most recent (late February to early November 2026), 19 give three stars or fewer. The complaints in those are a full coach with little room for knees and bags, a guide with little to say on some days, a picnic dinner some found light, and cloud on a few nights. The five-star reviews talk about the guide, the light on the pillars at sunset and the Milky Way.
